Fast answer: how should you use this DPS calculator?

Use the calculator as a planning layer before you spend scarce resources. Pick a base unit from the 369 current stat rows, overwrite the numbers with your in-game screen, add support buffs, add the expected trait multiplier, set hits per attack, then compare whether the result actually changes your Story, Infinite, Rift, Boss Rush, raid, dungeon, or trade decision.

How the calculator works

Effective damage is damage multiplied by hits and by the combined buff and trait multipliers. DPS is effective damage divided by SPA. Special effects, placement limits, mode rules, and upgrade-specific mechanics still need in-game checking.

Input checklist before trusting a DPS result

  1. Damage: enter the number from the current in-game unit screen when possible, especially after upgrades, evolution, Stat Chips, or balance updates.
  2. SPA: use the visible seconds per attack. A lower SPA raises DPS only if the unit still hits the targets that matter.
  3. Buff %: add reliable support buffs only when the support is actually present in the mode and can keep uptime.
  4. Trait %: use the expected trait impact from the trait page or your current roll, then compare it with the trait DPS planner before rerolling.
  5. Hits per attack: set this above 1 only for attacks that consistently land multiple hits on the same target or wave.
  6. Range: keep range visible because a higher DPS unit can still underperform if it cannot reach the route, lane, or boss window.

DPS decision matrix

Trait reroll

Run current trait and target trait assumptions before spending rerolls. If the DPS change does not affect a real clear or route, hold the rerolls.

Stat Chips

Test Damage, SPA, and Range changes before using chips. A Damage roll is not always better than SPA or Range for a specific mode.

Evolution

Compare the current form against the evolved plan only after checking material cost, role fit, and whether the evolved unit solves the bottleneck.

Team slot

Use DPS to choose a carry, then use the team builder to cover support, range, boss pressure, element coverage, and flex slots.

When raw DPS is misleading

A higher number is not always the better build. Boss Rush can reward burst windows, Infinite can reward scaling and coverage, raids and dungeons can reward route-specific mechanics, and Story clears can fail from range or placement rather than total DPS. Treat this calculator as one input in the build decision, not as a universal tier list.

Recommended workflow

  1. Open the unit database or a unit profile and pick the unit you are considering.
  2. Copy the current damage, SPA, and range from your in-game unit screen into the calculator.
  3. Add only the buffs, traits, and hit count that are realistic for the mode you are clearing.
  4. Compare the result with a second unit, trait, or Stat Chip plan before spending resources.
  5. Use the investment planner if the DPS increase requires scarce materials, rerolls, Memoria, or trade value.

Stat source

The base unit values come from the public VanguardsCalc unit index checked on 2026-06-10. Use the values as starting points, then overwrite the inputs with your own in-game unit screen if an update changes stats.

Quick answers

Common questions

Short answers for the decision this page is meant to solve.

Does this Anime Vanguards calculator know every upgrade?

No. The first version uses base unit stats and player-entered values so you can calculate DPS without relying on stale upgrade tables.

What is the basic Anime Vanguards DPS formula?

For simple comparisons, DPS equals damage multiplied by hits, buffs, and trait multipliers, then divided by SPA. Special effects can change the real in-game result.

When should I use the Anime Vanguards damage calculator?

Use it before spending Trait Rerolls, Stat Chips, evolution materials, or trade value on a unit whose role depends on damage output.

Why can calculator DPS differ from in-game performance?

Mode rules, placement limits, targeting, passives, cooldown timing, upgrades, enemy movement, and support uptime can make real performance differ from a simple DPS estimate.
